The Oyo State Government has intensified efforts to strengthen fiscal planning, governance, and institutional capacity with the commencement of the 2027–2029 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) preparation and the training of senior civil servants on talent management and mentoring.

The Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning has begun a five-day workshop at the University of Ibadan Conference Centre, bringing together 60 participants from Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) involved in planning, budgeting, and finance.

The workshop aims to equip participants with the technical skills required to prepare a realistic and implementable medium-term budget framework while enhancing their understanding of revenue forecasting, expenditure planning, programme-based budgeting, and fiscal sustainability.

Representing the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Barr. Ayobami Ojo, the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Ghafar Bello, described the exercise as another milestone in promoting transparent, prudent, and results-oriented budgeting in Oyo State.

He noted that the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework remains a critical tool for aligning government expenditure with policy priorities, available resources, the Omituntun 2.0 Roadmap for Sustainable Development, and Agenda 2040, while urging participants to uphold transparency, accountability, and realistic costing.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Tunde Ayanleke, commended Governor Seyi Makinde for approving the workshop, while the Lead Consultant, Dr. Ayuba Onifade, urged participants to provide accurate and credible data to ensure the effectiveness of the MTEF.

In a related development, the state government also organised a two-day executive workshop for 100 senior civil and public service officers on talent management and mentoring, aimed at strengthening succession planning and institutional development across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.

Speaking at the training, the Head of Service, Mrs. Adenike Fasina, represented by Barrister Sunday Olagoke, and Commissioner for Investment, Trade, Cooperatives and Industry, Professor Saliu Abdulwaheed Adelabu, emphasized the importance of developing future leaders, mentoring younger officers, and ensuring continuity in the public service.

Participants commended both initiatives, describing them as timely interventions that will strengthen fiscal discipline, improve leadership capacity, and support the Makinde administration’s vision of building an efficient, transparent, and future-ready public service capable of driving sustainable development across Oyo State.
