The Oyo State Government and the 33 local government councils will spend ₦4.278 billion to conduct chairmanship and councillorship elections scheduled for December 29, 2026.
The State Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday following the State Executive Council meeting.
Oyelade said the council approved the payment of the state government’s counterpart funding to the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) to enable it to commence preparations for the elections.
According to the commissioner, the 33 local government councils will provide 60 per cent of the total election funding, while the state government will contribute the remaining 40 per cent.

The funding arrangement is expected to support preparations for the conduct of elections into the chairmanship and councillorship positions across the state’s 33 local government areas.
The approval was given at the State Executive Council meeting as part of steps towards ensuring that OYSIEC begins necessary preparations ahead of the December 29 polls.
The elections will determine the next set of local government chairpersons and councillors responsible for grassroots administration across Oyo State.
Further details on the funding breakdown and other arrangements for the elections were not included in the information provided.
