The Chairman of the Board of Upgrade Ladoke Akintola International Airport, Arc. Ifeoluwa Akande, has thrown his support behind The Woman Within Initiative, a women’s leadership and civic development movement committed to awakening, equipping, connecting and inspiring a generation of women for leadership and governance.
Arc. Akande’s support was announced during a strategic meeting of the initiative held on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, in Ibadan, Oyo State, where members gathered to strengthen the movement’s vision, plan its digital advocacy campaign and outline programmes for the year.
A major highlight of the meeting was the recognition of Arc. Akande as patron of The Woman Within Initiative. His willingness to support the movement through his influence and financial contributions is expected to strengthen its efforts to promote women’s leadership, civic participation and youth development.
The initiative described the development as an important step towards building strategic partnerships and mobilising the support needed to translate its vision into practical programmes that will benefit young women and their communities.
Speaking on the objectives of the meeting, members emphasised the importance of using individual skills, professional expertise and personal experiences to create meaningful change in society. They noted that every member had a role to play in advancing the initiative’s mission and ensuring that its activities produce positive and lasting impact.
Discussions also centred on the importance of preparing young women for leadership and governance, with members highlighting the need to equip them with the knowledge, confidence and practical skills required to participate meaningfully in decision-making and community development.
The initiative maintained that leadership extends beyond occupying political offices, stressing that individuals can demonstrate leadership by providing solutions to societal challenges, serving their communities and inspiring others through responsible action.
Another key focus of the meeting was the development of a coordinated online advocacy campaign aimed at increasing public awareness of The Woman Within Initiative, attracting prospective members and partners, and encouraging more young women to explore leadership opportunities.
The proposed campaign is expected to feature educational content and conversations around women’s representation, leadership development, civic awareness and participation in governance. It will also provide a platform for communicating the initiative’s activities, highlighting opportunities for young women and encouraging constructive engagement on issues affecting women and society.
Representatives of the Oyo State Agency for Youth Development were also present at the meeting to assess the initiative. Their participation provided an opportunity for engagement as the movement continues to strengthen its institutional development and explore possible areas of collaboration in youth empowerment and leadership development.
The engagement reflects The Woman Within Initiative’s commitment to building relationships with government institutions and other stakeholders whose objectives align with its mission of promoting youth development, women’s inclusion and active civic participation.
Members also reviewed programmes proposed for the year, with emphasis on leadership education, mentorship, networking, skills development and community engagement. These activities are intended to help young women build the capacity to take up leadership responsibilities and contribute meaningfully to public life.
