The Executive Chairman of Ibadan South-West Local Government, Hon. Kehinde Adeyemi Akande, has received the Peace, Security and Good Governance Award from the EveryYouth in Politics initiative.
The award was presented in recognition of his contributions to grassroots politics, exemplary leadership and commitment to good governance, following an assessment of his administration’s efforts in maintaining peace and strengthening local security.
According to the organisers, the council has enjoyed relative peace and stability under Akande’s leadership, alongside improved youth engagement and people-oriented policies aimed at improving residents’ welfare.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, a representative of EveryYouth in Politics, Mr. Omisore, said the initiative was established to recognise and encourage young, vibrant and result-oriented leaders making positive impacts in society.
The organisers described Akande as a youth-friendly and accessible chairman, noting that his open-door policy, inclusive governance and proactive approach to issues have earned him the support of residents.
Meanwhile, security agencies in Ibadan South-West, including the DSS, Nigeria Police Force, NDLEA, NSCDC, Amotekun Corps and Vigilante Network Group, commended the chairman for his support, improved collaboration and provision of logistics to strengthen policing and crime prevention.
In his response, Akande thanked the organisers and security agencies for the recognition, dedicating the award to the people of Ibadan South-West, the local government’s management and staff, and Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for creating an enabling environment for local government administration.
He said the award would motivate his administration to intensify efforts in youth empowerment, security and democratic dividends. Akande also urged Nigerian youths to participate actively in politics and governance, while attendees described the honour as a testament to his purposeful leadership.
