Falana Backs The Woman Within Initiative, Urges Registration for Youth Empowerment Opportunities

The Chairman of the Oyo State Agency for Youth Development, Hon. Prince Adebowale Falana, has expressed support for The Woman Within Initiative, a women’s leadership and civic development movement, urging the organisation to register with the agency to position itself for potential youth empowerment opportunities.

Falana gave the advice during a courtesy visit by a delegation of The Woman Within Initiative, which was aimed at introducing the movement, explaining its vision and exploring opportunities for collaboration with the state government on youth empowerment, women’s leadership development and inclusive governance.

The Woman Within Initiative is committed to awakening, equipping, connecting and inspiring a generation of women for leadership and governance. Through leadership training, mentorship, civic education and networking, the initiative seeks to prepare young women to participate meaningfully in decision-making and contribute to the development of their communities.

During the meeting, the delegation explained that the initiative was established to bridge the gap between young women’s potential and their participation in leadership and governance. It emphasised the need to equip young women with the knowledge, skills, confidence and support systems required to take up leadership roles, irrespective of their previous involvement in politics or public service.

The team also highlighted the importance of creating platforms where young women can understand governance, develop their leadership capacities and become active participants in shaping policies and decisions that affect their lives and communities.

The deliberations were described as fruitful, as Falana expressed support for the initiative’s vision and encouraged the team to take practical steps towards establishing a formal relationship with the agency.

As part of his recommendations, the chairman advised the initiative to register with the Oyo State Agency for Youth Development, noting that its youth-focused objectives made registration an important step towards accessing relevant opportunities available to recognised youth organisations.

He further explained that formal registration could position the initiative to be considered for potential empowerment programmes and opportunities, including grants, loans and other government-supported interventions, subject to the applicable requirements and availability of such programmes.

The delegation welcomed the advice, describing it as an encouraging step towards building a sustainable organisation capable of creating meaningful opportunities for young women and contributing to youth development across Oyo State.

The visit also underscored the importance of collaboration between youth-focused organisations and government institutions in advancing inclusive development, strengthening civic participation and promoting women’s representation in leadership and governance.

The Woman Within Initiative maintains that empowering young women requires more than encouraging them to aspire to leadership positions. It also involves providing them with practical knowledge, relevant skills, mentorship, networks and opportunities to translate their aspirations into tangible results.

The initiative is therefore seeking strategic partnerships with government agencies and other relevant stakeholders to strengthen its institutional capacity, expand its programmes and reach more young women across the state.

The courtesy visit forms part of the movement’s broader stakeholder engagement efforts as it works to establish itself as a platform for leadership development, civic education, mentorship and networking among young women.

With its vision of “Awakening a Generation of Women for Leadership and Governance,” The Woman Within Initiative aims to prepare a new generation of women to contribute meaningfully to decision-making, community development and the future of Oyo State.
