The Executive Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, Hon. Oluwaseun Olufade, has commended the performance of lawmakers elected on the platform of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) in Ibadan North, describing their representation as people-oriented and consistent with the party’s “Nigerian-first” ideology.

Olufade, while assessing the performance of Hon. Olufunke Comforter, Hon. Adebayo Babajide Gabriel and Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle DON, representing Ibadan North Constituency I, Constituency II and Ibadan North Federal Constituency respectively, said their interventions demonstrated that effective representation goes beyond publicity and political rhetoric.

He cited the commissioning of six motorised boreholes, a bridge and a community gate across Ibadan North Constituency II by Hon. Adebayo Babajide Gabriel, describing the projects as practical interventions capable of improving residents’ access to basic infrastructure.

The chairman also praised Hon. Olufunke Comforter for her interventions in Constituency I, particularly the construction of an Amotekun security building in Akingbola Ward 5, as well as empowerment programmes and financial assistance provided to constituents.

At the federal level, Olufade commended Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle DON for several interventions, including the distribution of food palliatives on six consecutive occasions and the construction of pedestrian bridges linking communities within the constituency.

He further highlighted the commencement of the 1.17-kilometre Atenda–Alawada Road and the distribution of solar-powered streetlights to communities across the federal constituency, saying the projects would improve connectivity, mobility, security and economic activities.

Olufade said the interventions reflected the APM’s commitment to maintaining its social contract with the people, stressing that the true measure of political representation should be the positive impact made on constituents rather than the number of billboards or publicity materials displayed.

He, however, criticised the APC governorship candidate in Oyo State and serving Senator representing Oyo South, Barrister Sharafadeen Alli, alleging that his visibility was more pronounced through billboards than tangible constituency projects. Referring to the public description of the senator as “Senator Billboards,” Olufade said, “The best display should not be on billboards; it should be on the lives that have been meaningfully impacted,” while urging political office holders to prioritise tangible development and the welfare of the people.
