Olufade Urges Residents to Collect PVCs as INEC Begins Distribution

The Executive Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, Hon. Oluwaseun Oluwatobi Olufade, has urged residents to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) begins nationwide distribution, stressing the importance of civic participation.

Olufade made the appeal during a health outreach organised by the Oyo State Ministry of Health in collaboration with eye health professionals, partner non-governmental organisations and Ibadan North Local Government to commemorate the 2026 World Sight Day. In a statement signed by the Head of Information Unit, Ibadan North Local Government, Folashade Oduola-Olatinwo, the event was held at the council hall under the theme, “Love Your Eye: Protect Your Vision, See Clearly, Live Fully,” and benefited hundreds of residents.

The outreach aimed to raise awareness about preventable vision loss, expand access to eye care services and connect residents with follow-up treatment. Activities included health talks, comprehensive eye screenings, free eyeglasses for eligible beneficiaries, essential medications, blood sugar testing for early detection of diabetes-related eye complications and free cataract surgery for qualified patients.

In his goodwill message, Olufade commended the Ministry of Health and its partners for the initiative, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to public welfare. He disclosed that the council had enrolled more than 300 residents in the Oyo State Health Insurance Scheme during each of its first and second phases, while preparations for the third phase were ongoing.

Olufade also used the occasion to encourage eligible voters to collect their PVCs promptly as INEC commenced distribution. He urged residents to participate in the electoral process, adding that they should use their votes to support candidates of their choice. He also expressed support for the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), urging residents to consider its candidates in future elections.

Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Oyo State Ministry of Health, Dr. Akintunde Ayinde, who led the ministry’s team and partner organisations, highlighted the importance of eye health and commended the council chairman for providing logistical support despite receiving short notice about the programme.

Earlier, Dr. Aminat Aboderin, in her welcome address, appreciated the Ministry of Health and its partners for organising the outreach and praised the council chairman for supporting health programmes in Ibadan North. She encouraged residents to visit nearby primary healthcare facilities for eye tests and other available services.
