The Executive Chairman of Ibadan South West Local Government, Hon. Kehinde Akande, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to grassroots development during an inspection of the ongoing road reconstruction project in Akuro area of the council.
Akande, who visited the project site on Tuesday, was received by engineers and community leaders. He inspected the level of work and quality of materials being used, including drainage works, culverts and the road base.
The chairman expressed satisfaction with the progress and quality of work, but urged the engineers handling the project to accelerate the pace while ensuring that the required standards are maintained.
Akande said the reconstruction was part of his administration’s efforts to open up inner roads, ease transportation and improve the living conditions of residents across Ibadan South West.
“This road has been in a bad state for many years and our people have suffered untold hardship. We are determined to change that narrative. The purpose of governance is to make life better for the people, and this reconstruction in Akuro is one of the ways we are delivering on that promise,” he said.
He added that the local government would continue to prioritise road infrastructure, noting that good roads promote commerce, reduce accidents and improve access to markets, schools and healthcare facilities.
Residents of Akuro who welcomed the chairman commended him for fulfilling his campaign promises. They noted that the completed project would ease movement, facilitate the transportation of goods and services and help reduce flooding in the area.
Akande was accompanied by Supervisors, Special Assistants and other management staff during the inspection. He assured residents that the administration would continue to monitor ongoing projects across the wards to ensure timely completion, quality delivery and value for money.
