Akande Says 500-Capacity CBT Centre Will Bridge Digital Gap in Oyo
The Chairman of Ibadan South West Local Government, Hon. Kehinde Akande, has said the construction of a 500-capacity Computer Based Test (CBT) Centre at St. Theresa College, Oke Ado, will help bridge the digital gap and improve access to modern examination facilities in Oyo State.
Akande stated this on Wednesday during the groundbreaking ceremony for the project at the premises of the 115-year-old St. Theresa College, Oke Ado, Ibadan, which attracted government officials, educators and community stakeholders.
Speaking at the event, the council chairman described the project as an investment in the future of young people, noting that students would no longer need to travel long distances or incur high costs to access facilities for computer-based examinations.
He said the centre, which is expected to be one of the largest CBT facilities in Ibadan, would be equipped with 500 computer systems, solar power backup, air conditioning, high-speed internet and a server room to ensure smooth examinations.
According to the project scope, the facility will cater for examinations including JAMB, WAEC, NECO and professional certification tests, while also providing digital literacy training for teachers and youths within the local government.
Stakeholders commended the local government for choosing St. Theresa College as the host institution, saying the project would further strengthen the school’s long-standing tradition of academic excellence and position it as a hub for 21st-century learning.
Community leaders and parents also described the initiative as a welcome development, saying it would help reduce examination malpractice, lower costs for families and create employment opportunities for ICT instructors and technicians in the area.
Construction is expected to commence immediately and be completed within a few months. Stakeholders said the project aligns with the focus of the Oyo State Government on education and digital transformation, while describing the 500-capacity facility as a significant addition to examination infrastructure in Ibadan.
