Oyo Commissioner, TESCOM Chairman Honour Students at IBSWLG Summer School Finale

The 2026 Summer School Programme of Ibadan South West Local Government ended on Thursday with a grand finale at UMC, attracting top government officials, education stakeholders, political functionaries and career officers.

 

The event was held under the leadership of the Chairman of Ibadan South West Local Government, Hon. Kehinde Akande, with the Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Wasilat Adegoke; Executive Chairman of TESCOM, Dr. Olubukola Oladipo; Inspector General of Education in Oyo State, Mr. Tosin Aderibigbe; and Education Secretary, Ibadan South West, Mrs. Morenike Adeniran, among those in attendance.

 

 

The summer school, which lasted several weeks, was designed to keep pupils and students productively engaged during the holiday through academic coaching, talent development, sports and life-skills training.

 

Speaking at the event, Commissioner Wasilat Adegoke commended Akande for sustaining the initiative, saying it aligned with the Oyo State Government’s commitment to youth development. She encouraged the students to maintain the learning spirit while embracing sports and other extracurricular activities to build discipline and confidence.

 

 

The TESCOM Chairman, Dr. Olubukola Oladipo, also praised the quality of instruction and the impressive turnout of students, noting that initiatives of the kind complement government efforts to strengthen education across the state.

Similarly, the Inspector General of Education, Mr. Tosin Aderibigbe, described the programme as a model that could be replicated in other local governments, saying it would help bridge learning gaps and adequately prepare students for the new academic session.

 

 

A major highlight of the grand finale was the presentation of prizes and honorary awards to outstanding students and teachers in academics, sports, arts and leadership. The Best Summer Coaching Student was also honoured and installed as the One-Day Chairman of Ibadan South West Local Government.

 

In his address, Hon. Kehinde Akande said the programme was introduced to reduce idleness among young people during holidays and provide opportunities for talent discovery and development. He pledged the council’s continued investment in education and youth-focused initiatives, while parents, community leaders and other stakeholders commended the local government for organising what they described as a successful and impactful programme.
