The Executive Chairman of Ibadan South West Local Government, Hon. Kehinde Akande, on Monday conducted an aptitude test for over 600 students as part of the selection process for the council’s One-Day Chairman initiative.
The assessment, held at the UMC in Molete, attracted students from public and private primary and secondary schools across Ibadan South West, who were tested in governance, current affairs, Mathematics, English Language and Civic Education.
The initiative marks the third consecutive year of the programme sponsored by Hon. Akande, with the aim of promoting leadership, academic excellence and civic responsibility among young people in the local government.
Akande said the programme was designed to provide students with practical exposure to governance and inspire them to develop an early interest in public service and leadership.
“We have made this an annual tradition because we believe in our children. This is the third time in a row that we are sponsoring this lofty programme to add value to the lives of young minds in Ibadan South West,” Akande said.
He added, “Leadership is not about age. Today, one of you will sit in this chair and see how decisions that affect our people are made,” encouraging the students to see themselves as future leaders.
Officials of the Local Government Education Authority, school principals, teachers and parents attended the exercise, which featured a competitive but engaging atmosphere as students answered questions and shared ideas on community development.
At the end of the exercise, the highest-scoring student will emerge as One-Day Chairman and shadow the council chairman, attend official meetings and participate in council activities for the day, while other top performers will receive awards and educational support. The council said the winner would be announced after the final collation of results.
