The excitement continued on Day 2 of the Eletu Summer Coaching Programme in Ibadan South West Local Government Area, as parents, students and community leaders gathered at the UMC Centre to commend the initiative and its sponsor, Honourable Kehinde Akande.
The annual programme recorded a large turnout of pupils and secondary school students who are taking advantage of the long vacation to improve their academic performance and develop useful skills. The initiative also incorporates moral training and activities designed to keep young people productively engaged.
Speaking with journalists on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, parents expressed appreciation for the continuity of the programme, describing it as a yearly intervention that supports families while helping students prepare for the next academic session.
One of the parents, Mrs. Adebayo from the Molete area, said the programme goes beyond academic lessons, noting that it gives children hope, direction and an opportunity to develop themselves during the holiday.
The students also expressed enthusiasm about the coaching. Fourteen-year-old Yusuf Akinola said he particularly enjoys the Mathematics and English lessons, adding that the free programme has also provided an opportunity to meet and interact with new friends.
Community leaders at the session praised Honourable Akande for sustaining the initiative, describing it as one of the impactful grassroots education programmes in the LGA. Engr. Lamidi Oyekanmi of Anfanni noted that the programme has helped reduce idleness among youths during holidays and has contributed to the academic success of some beneficiaries in WAEC and JAMB.
Teachers equally commended the students for their punctuality and discipline, while encouraging parents to ensure regular attendance throughout the programme. They said consistent participation would help the students derive maximum benefit from the coaching.
The Eletu Summer Coaching Programme, which has been running for several years, forms part of Honourable Kehinde Akande’s commitment to education and youth development in Ibadan South West LGA. The four-week programme is expected to feature academic lessons, career talks and extracurricular activities for hundreds of students across different wards.
