In a significant clarification on the Ibadan Circular Road project, Governor Seyi Makinde has addressed concerns surrounding the built-up areas along the corridor, announcing a proposed 75-metre setback for those areas and outlining plans for compensation to affected property owners.
Speaking during an interview on Crossfire Exclusive with Mayor Isaac Brown, the governor stated that the 75-metre setback for built-up areas would be gazetted, providing a formal basis for the proposed arrangement.
He also disclosed that the ₦6.7 billion compensation package was expected to be signed during the week, with disbursement scheduled to commence immediately afterwards and be completed before the end of October 2026.
This announcement brings two major issues into focus: the treatment of communities and properties along the Circular Road corridor, and the implementation of the promised compensation for those affected by the project.

For residents and property owners, the key issues now are clear: the formal gazetting of the proposed setback, transparency in identifying eligible beneficiaries, timely payment of compensation, and clear communication throughout the process.
Beyond road construction, infrastructure development must also address the concerns of the people whose properties and livelihoods are affected. The implementation of these commitments will be an important next step in determining how the Circular Road project moves forward.
As the governor has outlined the proposed measures and timeline, attention now turns to the official gazette, the commencement of disbursement, and the fulfilment of the stated deadline.
