Makinde Declares Tuesday Work-Free Day to Mark Hijrah 1448AH

Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has declared Tuesday, June 16, 2026, a work-free day across the state in commemoration of the Islamic New Year, Hijrah 1448AH.

 

 

According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser (Media) to the Governor, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the governor also congratulated Muslims in Oyo State and across Nigeria on the occasion, praying for Allah’s continued blessings and the opportunity to witness many more Islamic New Year celebrations.

 

 

A memo signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde, stated that Governor Makinde urged members of the Muslim Ummah to use the occasion to offer prayers for peace, unity and prosperity in Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole.

 

 

The governor also called on residents of the state to remain vigilant before, during and after the celebrations. He urged them to promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to security agencies or through the state’s emergency number, 615.

 

 

Makinde reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property, while encouraging citizens to continue supporting efforts aimed at maintaining peace and security across the state.

 

 

The Hijrah calendar marks the migration of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) from Makkah to Madinah and signifies the beginning of a new Islamic year for Muslims worldwide.
