Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with federal security agencies to ensure the safety of lives and property across the state.
The governor made this known during a working visit by the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Adegoke Fayoade, to the Governor’s Office at the State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.
Governor Makinde expressed appreciation to the Inspector General of Police for the support deployed to Oyo State amid recent security challenges, including cases of kidnapping and other criminal activities. He noted that the state government would continue to partner with security agencies to enhance public safety.
The governor also commended the IGP’s Violent Crimes Unit initiative, describing it as effective and impactful. He cited the recent rescue of the kidnapped sister of a former Minister of Power as evidence of the unit’s success in combating violent crimes in the state.
Makinde urged the DIG to convey Oyo State’s concerns to the Inspector General of Police and requested feedback on areas where the state government could provide additional support to improve security operations and outcomes.
Earlier, DIG Fayoade lauded the Oyo State Government for its logistical and financial support to the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies. He expressed regret over recent kidnapping incidents in the state and assured residents that security operatives had been directed to work towards the safe return of all abducted victims while maintaining round-the-clock security across the South-West region.
The visit comes amid heightened concerns over insecurity in parts of Oyo State, particularly following the abduction of teachers and pupils in Oriire Local Government Area, with security agencies intensifying efforts to secure their release.
