The race for the position of One-Day Chairman of Ibadan South West Local Government has begun, with over 600 students set to participate in an assessment test to determine the overall winner.
The Executive Chairman of the council, Hon. Kehinde Akande, announced that the assessment will hold on Monday, September 7, 2026, at UMC, Molete, by 9:00 a.m., as part of efforts to promote leadership, civic responsibility and youth participation in governance.
According to Akande, the One-Day Chairman initiative is designed to give students firsthand experience of local government administration while providing an opportunity to identify bright and promising young leaders within the local government.
He explained that the selection process would be transparent and strictly merit-based, with the assessment test determining the student who will emerge as the overall winner and assume the position of One-Day Chairman.
The Chairman disclosed that the initiative has been running concurrently with the council’s holiday coaching programme since 2024, providing students with opportunities to develop their academic and leadership abilities during school breaks.
Under the Akande administration, students have continued to benefit from free holiday coaching, teaching materials, books and co-curricular activities aimed at supporting learning and personal development.
Akande said the administration remained committed to investing in the younger generation, stressing that the One-Day Chairman experience and holiday coaching programme were part of efforts to ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn, develop and participate meaningfully in society.
He urged all registered participants, parents, guardians and school authorities to ensure that candidates arrive early at the venue for proper accreditation, noting that the One-Day Chairman initiative has become one of the flagship youth engagement programmes of the Ibadan South West Local Government administration.
