The Oyo State Government has trained 80 civil servants who successfully completed a three-week intensive training programme in Basic Computer Operation and Application, aimed at strengthening digital skills, improving workplace efficiency and enhancing service delivery across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
The training, organised by the Simeon Adebo Staff Development Centre, Ibadan, forms part of the government’s commitment to continuous capacity building and the development of a digitally competent civil service. Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Head of Service, Dr. Adenike Fasina, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Career Management Service, Mr. Muyiwa Olagoke, commended the Centre for its commitment to human resource development.
Fasina assured the Centre of the state government’s continued moral and financial support to strengthen its operations and improve its training programmes.
The Commissioner for Investment, Trade, Cooperatives and Industry, Professor Saliu Adelabu, said the government was transitioning from conventional administration to a digital and virtual system, noting that computer literacy had become essential to effective public-sector administration.
Adelabu disclosed that the government would soon commence Business Process Automation across its operations, adding that more computer training would be provided through the Management Information System Centre to ensure that civil servants acquire the necessary digital competencies.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Establishments and Training, Alhaji Alade Bello, urged the participants to continuously practise and apply the skills acquired during the programme in their respective MDAs.
Other officials, including Mrs. Abimbola Serifat Bukola, Mrs. Christianah Abidemi Adejumo and Alhaja Mustapha Kudirat Oyebisi, also stressed the importance of digital literacy to the daily activities and career advancement of civil and public servants.
Earlier, the Executive Secretary of the Staff Development Centre, Mrs. Stella Okedum, encouraged the graduates to build on the foundational knowledge gained and translate it into practical improvements at their workplaces. Speaking on behalf of the graduates, Mrs. Adeola Sulaimon and Mr. Damilare Adubi appreciated the state government for the initiative, saying the training had significantly improved their computer skills and that the certificates would enhance their future career prospects.
