June 12: Ibadan North Council Chairman, Oluwaseun Olufade Celebrates Democracy Day, Calls For Unity, Security and Hope For A Better Nigeria

 

The Executive Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, Hon. Oluwaseun Olufade, has joined Nigerians in celebrating 27 years of uninterrupted democracy. He reaffirmed his commitment to good governance, democratic values, and people-oriented leadership in his Democracy Day message.

 

 

Through his Head of Media, Aderibigbe Yisahu Ajibola, Olufade paid tribute to the late Chief MKO Abiola. He said Abiola’s sacrifice and dedication to democratic ideals continue to inspire generations of Nigerians.

 

 

According to the Chairman, June 12 remains a defining moment in Nigeria’s democratic history. He described it as a reminder of the struggles and resilience of patriots who fought to ensure the will of the people prevails.

 

 

“The significance of June 12 goes beyond history. It symbolizes courage, justice, freedom, and our collective determination to enthrone democratic governance. As we celebrate, we must uphold accountability, transparency, inclusion, and service to humanity,” Olufade stated.

 

 

Reflecting on Nigeria’s journey, he noted notable progress in democratic governance but stressed a collective duty to tackle insecurity, economic hardship, and social development. He also lent his voice to calls for the safe release of abducted pupils, teachers, and principal from Oriire Local Government, describing the incident as painful and disturbing.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the affected families and Oriire community. I pray the abducted pupils, teachers, and principal are released unharmed and reunited with their loved ones. We must support every effort aimed at securing their freedom and restoring peace,” he said.

 

 

Olufade prayed for divine intervention in Nigeria’s affairs and expressed optimism that the nation would overcome current challenges. He said he envisions a peaceful, secure, and united Nigeria where every citizen enjoys the dividends of democracy.

 

 

He extended goodwill to Governor Seyi Makinde and all public office holders for strengthening democratic institutions. He urged Ibadan North residents and Nigerians to remain hopeful, prayerful, and resilient, reiterating his administration’s commitment to quality governance and improved welfare.
