Justice Babagana Karumi of the Borno State High Court in Maiduguri has ordered the interim forfeiture of a four-bedroom flat built on a 50ft by 100ft plot of land in connection with an alleged investment scam. The order followed an ex parte application filed by the Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The EFCC linked the property to one Udda Hamid Ahmad (also known as Imam Dawud), who allegedly deceived a petitioner, Alhaji Ahmadu Idris, into investing in a non-existent wheat offal business in 2022 and 2023. Idris reportedly transferred N345 million based on a promise of profitable returns.

EFCC counsel, Mukhtar Ali Ahmed, told the court that investigations suggested the property at Dikecheri Mashamari Ward in Jere Local Government Area was acquired with proceeds of crime. He added that the application was supported by an affidavit from an EFCC investigator detailing the findings of the case.

Justice Karumi granted the application and ordered the interim forfeiture of the property pending the conclusion of investigations and possible prosecution.

In a related ruling, Justice Jude K. Dagat of the Federal High Court in Maiduguri also ordered the interim forfeiture and freezing of accounts belonging to one Muhammad Abubakar (also known as Abubakar Muhammad) over alleged criminal misappropriation and cheating.
