The Oyo State Deputy Governor, Bayo Lawal, on Tuesday led a government delegation to Bode Market in Ibadan South West Local Government to assess the damage caused by the recent fire incident and reassure affected traders of the state government’s support.
The deputy governor, who was received by the Chairman of Ibadan South West Local Government, Kehinde Akande, alongside market leaders and traders, conveyed Governor Seyi Makinde’s sympathy to the victims and reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to their welfare.

Barr. Lawal said the visit was to assess the situation firsthand and assure traders that the government would not abandon them, describing Bode Market as a major economic hub for both Ibadan South West and Oyo State.
He directed that a comprehensive enumeration of all affected shops be carried out within seven days to enable the government determine an appropriate intervention and relief package for the victims.
The deputy governor stressed the importance of accurate and transparent data collection, urging the local government and market leadership to work together to ensure no affected trader is left out of the exercise.
In his remarks, Hon. Akande appreciated the deputy governor for the prompt visit and pledged that the local government would collaborate with the Baba Loja, Iya Loja and other market leaders to complete the enumeration within the stipulated timeframe.
Market leaders thanked the state government for identifying with the victims and appealed for urgent assistance to enable affected traders return to business. They also called for improved fire safety measures within the market, while the Babaloja General of Oyo State, Yekini Abass Oladapo, appealed for additional government support.
The deputy governor later toured the affected sections of the market and interacted with traders whose shops were destroyed by the fire. Officials of the Oyo State Emergency Management Agency and the Ministry of Trade and Investment were also part of the delegation.
