APM-PDP Coalition Picks Engr. Muftau Open Salawu as Deputy Governorship Candidate
The Allied People’s Movement (APM), in coalition with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has elected Engr. Muftau Open Salawu as its deputy governorship candidate ahead of the forthcoming election.
Engr. Open Salawu, a distinguished civil engineer, entrepreneur and administrator, was born on May 10, 1973, into the Alapa Ruling House of Isale Ora, Ita Alasa, Ogbomoso North Local Government Area of Oyo State. He holds a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the Federal University of Technology, Minna, and has undergone executive training at Harvard University, Boston, USA, and the London Business School, United Kingdom.
A Fellow of both the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers (NICE), Open Salawu began his professional career with D’Alberto & Giampoli before joining the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) in 1998. During his time in the Federal Capital Territory, he contributed to several key infrastructure and healthcare projects, including the upgrade of rural health centres to full hospitals and the development of resettlement housing schemes.
In 2006, he founded Opinior Engineering Company Limited, which has since grown into one of Nigeria’s leading real estate development firms. Under his leadership, the company has delivered over 1,000 housing units across 11 estates nationwide over the last two decades.
Open Salawu also has extensive public service experience. In 2019, he was appointed Special Adviser on Works and Transport to Governor ‘Seyi Makinde after stepping down his political ambition in support of the administration. Following the governor’s re-election, he served as Executive Assistant on Project Monitoring and was later appointed the pioneer Chairman of the Oyo State Project Performance Monitoring Agency in May 2024.
Beyond his professional and public service accomplishments, he holds several traditional titles, including Babalaje of Ogbomosoland, Giwa Adini of Oyo State and Waziri Jari Nupe. He is married and blessed with children.
