The Executive Chairman of Ibadan South West Local Government, Honourable Kehinde Akande, on Wednesday inspected the ongoing reconstruction of the road adjacent Sumal Foods, Stone Café, Sunlight Event Centre, and enroute Iyanganku GRA along the Ring Road. The visit was aimed at assessing the pace and quality of work on the busy corridor that serves residents, businesses, and motorists daily.

He was accompanied on the inspection by Supervisory Councillor for Works Hon. Kazeem Ashipa, Supervisory Councillor for Infrastructure Hon. Tunde Oluyedun, Hon. Olumide Bello, Director of Works Mr. Ademola Olona, and other council officials. The team moved along the project site to review progress.

Speaking with journalists on site, Hon. Akande said the project reflects his administration’s commitment to fixing bad roads and easing the movement of people and goods across Ibadan South West. He explained that heavy traffic around Sumal Foods, Stone Café, and Sunlight Event Centre made the reconstruction urgent.

“We are not just doing roads for the sake of it. This road serves thousands of residents, business owners, and visitors daily,” Akande said. He stressed that the goal is durability, proper drainage, and a road that will stand the test of time, and urged the contractor to maintain quality and follow specifications strictly.

Hon. Kazeem Ashipa assured residents that the council’s monitoring team will continue regular checks to prevent substandard work. Hon. Tunde Oluyedun added that infrastructure development remains a top priority, with more roads earmarked for rehabilitation across the local government.

Director of Works, Mr. Ademola Olona, briefed the chairman on technical progress. He confirmed that drainage work and earthwork have reached an advanced stage ahead of asphalt laying, putting the project on track.

Traders and residents in the area commended the chairman for the intervention. They said the project would reduce traffic congestion and vehicle damage along the corridor, which has been a major challenge for motorists.

Hon. Akande reaffirmed that Ibadan South West under his leadership will continue to prioritize people-centered projects. He also commended Governor Seyi Makinde for the developmental strides across Oyo State.
