The Executive Chairman of Ibadan South West Local Government, Hon. Kehinde Adeyemi Akande, has received a Meritorious Award from National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the council in recognition of his contributions to youth development and support for corps members.
The award was presented during a thank-you courtesy visit by the corps members, led by the Local Government Inspector (LGI), Mr. Gbadeyan Olayinka, at the chairman’s office in Ibadan.
The visit was organised to appreciate Hon. Akande for his recent donation of laptops to NYSC members serving in the local government, a gesture aimed at improving their official duties and productivity during the service year.
Addressing the corps members, the council chairman urged them to remain diligent, disciplined and committed to national development, while encouraging them to plan for their future and prioritize personal security.
He also advised the corps members to acquire vocational and entrepreneurial skills rather than relying solely on white-collar employment opportunities, stressing the importance of self-reliance and economic independence.
Speaking on behalf of the corps members, Mr. Gbadeyan Olayinka described the donation of laptops as a clear demonstration of the chairman’s commitment to youth empowerment and investment in the future of young Nigerians.
According to him, the laptops have significantly improved the efficiency and working experience of corps members within the council, making their assignments smoother and more effective.
In recognition of his fatherly role, selfless leadership and support for the welfare of corps members, the NYSC members presented Hon. Akande with a Meritorious Award during a ceremony attended by assistant LGIs, the Officer in Charge of Corps Members, Mrs. Adeniyi Abosede, the Corps Liaison Officer, Awomosun Adesola, and other serving corps members.
