Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has called on United States President Donald Trump to pay attention to the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.

Davido made the appeal today in a post on his X handle, expressing concerns over rising tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation and disruption of the democratic process ahead of the poll.

In the post, the singer directly addressed President Trump, writing: “we do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election.”

Davido said the international community should monitor the election in Osun to ensure that voters are allowed to exercise their franchise without fear. He noted that Osun has a history of keenly contested elections and that stakeholders must work to prevent a breakdown of law and order.

The Osun governorship election has been generating political tension in recent weeks, with parties and candidates intensifying campaigns across the state. Civil society groups have also raised concerns about hate speech, vote buying and the deployment of security personnel

The Independent National Electoral Commission is expected to announce the official date and guidelines for the election in line with the electoral timetable. Security agencies have said they will be on ground to ensure a peaceful process.

Davido, who hails from Osun State, has been vocal on political issues in the state in previous election cycles. In 2022, he was actively involved in campaigns and rallies ahead of the last governorship poll.

Reacting to his post, some social media users commended the singer for speaking out, while others called on Nigerian leaders and institutions to take primary responsibility for ensuring credible elections.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from the US government or the Nigerian government to Davido’s appeal.

Political observers say the call reflects growing concerns among citizens and public figures about electoral violence and the need for transparency in the upcoming Osun governorship contest.

The Osun State Government and security agencies have repeatedly assured residents that adequate measures will be put in place to guarantee a peaceful, free and credible election.
