The Nigerian Youth Congress, Oyo State Chapter, has urged Dr. Ayodele Fayose, former Governor of Ekiti State, to adopt a more measured and responsible tone in his public commentary on the current wave of abductions affecting citizens nationwide. The call was contained in a statement issued today and signed by State Chairman, Snr. Comrade Abdulfatai Adeyemi Legacy.
The Congress noted that with several innocent citizens still held in captivity, the priority of every leader must be the safety of victims, relief for affected families, and constructive support for security agencies. It stressed that political disagreements should not override the urgent human task of securing the release of abducted Nigerians.
The group emphasized that public statements carry weight, especially from leaders with national influence. Comments made without verified facts risk spreading panic, distracting security operatives, and eroding public trust needed for intelligence gathering and community cooperation. The Congress advised that credible information should be channeled directly to security authorities rather than debated in public.
Furthermore, the Nigerian Youth Congress stressed that insecurity does not recognize party affiliation. Citizens in PDP-led states, APC-led states, and communities across Nigeria are all victims. For this reason, it called on Dr. Fayose and other political leaders to rise above partisan differences and speak with one voice on urgent, intelligence-driven rescue operations and stronger inter-agency collaboration.
The Congress also highlighted the unique responsibility former governors bear in times of crisis. As statesmen with experience and public influence, their voices can either calm tensions or escalate them. It urged Dr. Fayose to use his platform to demand accountability from all levels of government and advocate for better funding and equipment for security agencies.
Promoting greater synergy between federal, state, and local security structures was another key point. The Congress said coordination is critical to ending the abduction crisis and restoring public confidence in the nation’s security architecture.
“The protection of lives and property remains the primary duty of government. At this moment, Nigerians need empathy, clarity, and decisive action from their leaders,” Snr. Comrade Legacy stated. He called on all stakeholders to focus on solutions that will bring victims home safely.
The Nigerian Youth Congress, Oyo State Chapter, reaffirmed its commitment to peace, lawful engagement, and the protection of citizens’ rights. Its 33 Local Government Coordinators pledged support for all legitimate efforts aimed at ending abductions, concluding that “Nigeria will work again when we choose responsibility over rhetoric and compassion over contempt. The time for that choice is now.”
