Comments by former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose during a Channels TV interview on Monday, 22nd June 2026, have sparked reactions across Oyo State. In the interview, Fayose made critical remarks about Governor Seyi Makinde and governance in Oyo, prompting responses from residents in Ibadan, Oyo, Ogbomoso, Ibarapa, and Oke-Ogun zones.
In Ibadan, residents dismissed Fayose’s comments as unnecessary. Mr. Tunde Adewale of Bodija Market called him “an irritant” and said support for Makinde remains strong due to visible work on roads, education, health, and security. Mrs. Risikat Oladipo of Apata credited renovated health centres for faster treatment for mothers and children, while youth leader Mr. Dele Ogundiran said flyovers and road expansions have reduced traffic and residents prefer leaders focused on work, not quarrels.
In Oyo town, Oyo Central, residents highlighted infrastructure and education gains. Mrs. Bose Alabi of Akesan Market said improved Oyo-Ibadan roads have boosted business, and warned that those working against Oyo’s progress will be “disgraced.” Chief Adegoke Adeyemi of Oyo East noted investment in education and agriculture, adding that school renovations are benefiting children, while graduate Miss Tosin Adebayo said job creation programs have helped many youths.
Ogbomoso residents in Oyo North said Fayose does not speak for them. Commercial driver Mr. Sunday Olaniyi cited road projects and upgrades at Ladoke Akintola University, urging Fayose to focus on Ekiti politics. LAUTECH student Miss Funmilayo Ajayi said she has seen more facilities and a better school environment, and Pa Adebayo Okunade of Ogbomoso South noted improved security for traders and farmers.
In Ibarapa East, farmers and teachers reported direct benefits from the administration. Pa Samuel Adeyemo of Eruwa said government seedlings and training helped local farmers, and residents know who is working for them. Mrs. Morenike Salami of Lanlate said renovated schools now have better chairs and leak-proof roofs, while motorcyclist Mr. Lateef Jimoh said road repairs in Ibarapa have cut accidents and transport costs.
Oke-Ogun residents also voiced support. Mr. Ibrahim Babatunde of Saki New Market said roads and health centres show the zone is no longer forgotten, and Fayose’s comments will not change their minds. Mrs. Esther Oyelade of Iseyin called for unity and peace, and Chief Kamorudeen Arowolo of Kishi said major projects have improved access for Oke-Ogun communities.
Gov. Makinde, elected in 2019 and re-elected in 2023, has continued commissioning projects across all five zones under the “Omituntun 2.0” agenda, with focus on roads, healthcare upgrades, education, and agriculture. The Oyo State Government has been publicizing these ongoing works through its communication channels.
Many residents concluded that “Makinde’s work speaks for him.” They said Oyo people are wiser now and can judge for themselves based on what they see in their communities. Citizens also criticized political figures who shift positions “depending on where the wind is blowing,” saying Oyo prefers stability and progress over confusion or interference from outside.
