The Executive Chairman of Ibadan South-West Local Government, Hon. Kehinde Adeyemi Akande, has assured residents of adequate security and public safety as Nigeria celebrates its 66th Independence Anniversary.
Akande, in a statement commemorating the Independence celebration on Thursday, October 1, congratulated residents of Ibadan South-West and Nigerians at home and abroad, describing the anniversary as an important milestone in the nation’s history.
The council chairman said the 66th anniversary calls for sober reflection, unity of purpose and collective efforts towards building a stronger, more peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.
He assured residents that adequate security arrangements had been put in place across Ibadan South-West to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free Independence celebration.

Akande commended security agencies and other security outfits operating in the council area for their efforts in protecting lives and property. He specifically praised the Department of State Services, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and Oyo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun.
He also recognised the contributions of the Vigilante Group and other local security structures, noting that the synergy among the various agencies had helped to sustain peace and tranquillity across Ibadan South-West.
The council chairman urged residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding and cooperative with security operatives. He encouraged them to provide useful information that could assist the authorities in preventing and combating crime within the community.
Akande also commended Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for his proactive approach to security and for creating an enabling environment for local governments to function effectively. He wished residents a happy Independence Day and called for continued prayers for the peace, unity and progress of Nigeria.
