The Executive Chairman of Ibadan South West Local Government, Hon. Kehinde Akande, has reiterated his administration’s zero tolerance for insecurity and criminality, stressing that every community within the local government must be safe for residents and businesses.

Akande stated this on Tuesday at the council secretariat in Oluyole during his monthly security meeting with heads of security agencies operating in the local government. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Police, DSS, NSCDC, Amotekun, NDLEA, Vigilante Group of Nigeria and other community security networks.

The Chairman said the monthly meeting was necessary to review security reports from all wards, identify emerging threats and develop proactive strategies to keep the local government ahead of criminal elements.

Akande stressed that security was fundamental to development, saying residents should be able to go about their daily activities without fear. He said traders must be able to open their businesses safely, while children should be able to attend school without security concerns.

He noted that Ibadan South West, as a major part of the Ibadan metropolis with large markets, motor parks and densely populated communities, required constant security surveillance and strong inter-agency collaboration.

The Chairman commended the security agencies for their cooperation and prompt response to distress calls, particularly in addressing cult-related disturbances, drug-related offences, burglary and land-grabbing activities. He also assured the agencies of continued logistical support from the council, while demanding improved results.

The heads of the various security agencies thanked Akande for sustaining the monthly engagement, describing it as a model for grassroots security management. They pledged to strengthen intelligence gathering, visibility policing, community policing and night patrols, while the NDLEA called for increased advocacy against drug abuse among youths.

The meeting ended with resolutions to strengthen joint patrols across all wards, improve response time to distress calls, sustain engagement with traditional rulers, market leaders, community development associations and youth groups, and intensify sensitisation against drug abuse and cultism.
