The Executive Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, Hon. Oluwaseun Olufade, has congratulated Nigerians on the occasion of the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary, urging citizens to remain hopeful and committed to building a peaceful, prosperous and united nation.
In a goodwill message issued on Thursday to mark the anniversary, Olufade described Nigeria’s independence as a significant milestone and an opportunity for citizens to reflect on the nation’s journey while looking ahead with renewed determination.
The Ibadan North chairman extended his greetings to residents of the council, the people of Oyo State and Nigerians across the country, commending their resilience and sacrifices in contributing to the growth and development of the nation despite prevailing challenges.
Olufade stressed that nation-building is a collective responsibility involving government, communities, traditional institutions, religious leaders, the private sector, youths and other patriotic citizens. He called for greater emphasis on peace, mutual respect, accountability, productivity and inclusive development.

According to him, sustainable national progress must begin with strong communities and responsive governance at the grassroots. He urged Nigerians to allow the challenges confronting the country to strengthen rather than weaken their determination to build a better society for future generations.
The council chairman also expressed concern over the economic hardship affecting many Nigerian families, praying for greater economic stability, improved opportunities and better quality of life. He called on leaders at all levels to prioritise policies that directly improve citizens’ welfare, particularly in education, healthcare, infrastructure, employment, security and economic empowerment.
Olufade further encouraged Nigerian youths to remain hopeful, acquire relevant skills and actively participate in the development of their communities. He emphasised the importance of the younger generation’s energy, creativity and ingenuity in shaping the future of the country, while urging citizens to promote peaceful coexistence regardless of ethnic, religious, political or social differences.
While reaffirming his commitment to grassroots development and responsible leadership in Ibadan North, Olufade prayed that the 66th Independence Anniversary would usher in renewed hope, unity, peace and prosperity for Nigeria. He wished Nigerians a peaceful celebration and expressed hope for continued development across Ibadan North, Oyo State and the country.
