Residents of Ibadan South West Local Government have gained improved access to healthcare following the commissioning of two new Primary Health Centres at Akuro PHC, Ward 5, and Bode PHC, Ward 4. The facilities were newly built and equipped to serve the local communities.
The centres were commissioned by the Chairman of Ibadan South West Local Government, Hon. Kehinde Akande. He assured residents and council members that the facilities would be effectively utilized and properly maintained to meet community health needs.
Hon. Sulayman Ogunbayode, WDC Chairman of Ibadan South West LG, commended Hon. Akande for delivering the projects. He said the establishment of the two health centres adds value to the community and reflects commitment to strengthening primary healthcare at the grassroots level.
Ogunbayode also appreciated all stakeholders involved in making the commissioning possible. He acknowledged Governor Engr. Oluwaseyi Abiodun Makinde, the Oyo State Primary Health Care Board, the Medical Officer of Health for Ibadan South West, health officers, political appointees, councilors from Ward 1 to 12, CDC Ibadan South West, and members of WDC Ibadan South West.
Representing the Executive Secretary of Oyo State Primary Health Care Board, Dr. Muideen Olatunji, Dr. Adewole urged residents to take full advantage of the new facilities. He assured them that challenges of “no staff and no drugs” at primary health centres are now over, with drugs and qualified health personnel available across the state.
Hon. Akande, in his remarks, thanked Governor Seyi Makinde for the support and opportunity to provide adequate healthcare services to the people of Ibadan South West. He said the collaboration between the state and local government made the project possible.
With Akuro and Bode PHCs now operational, residents of Wards 4 and 5 are expected to experience reduced pressure on existing health facilities. The new centres will help decongest older clinics in the area.
Overall, the commissioning is expected to improve access to basic medical and maternal healthcare services for the communities. The WDC Chairman noted that such investments demonstrate government’s focus on delivering healthcare closer to the people.
