Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has described the decoration of 102 newly promoted officers of the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) as a testament to quality service delivery and the agency’s steady institutional growth.
In a press release signed by the Special Adviser (Media) to the Governor, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, on Thursday, the governor said the decoration ceremony marked an important milestone for the officers and their families. He was represented at the event held at the Local Government Staff Training Hall, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, by the Commissioner for Establishment and Training, Dr. Olabode Ladipo.
Ladipo congratulated the newly promoted officers, noting that their elevation reflected the quality of service they had rendered to the state. He added that the promotions further affirmed the full integration of OYRTMA into the core civil service structure of Oyo State, with officers advancing to Grade Levels 13, 12, 10 and 9 now fully recognised within the state’s civil service.
He expressed optimism that some of the newly promoted officers would rise to the highest levels of service, while commending OYRTMA management for its reforms. He urged the officers to remain diligent in reducing road crashes, improving traffic management and promoting safer road use across the state.
Earlier, the Executive Chairman of OYRTMA, Major Adekoya Adesagba (Rtd), appreciated Governor Makinde for approving the promotions and prioritising staff welfare. He disclosed that 25 officers were promoted from GL 12 to 13, 11 from GL 10 to 12, 16 from GL 9 to 10, while 50 officers moved from GL 8 to 9.

Adesagba highlighted reforms introduced since his appointment in October 2023, including enlightenment sessions for traffic offenders, the establishment of OYRTMA Special Marshals and Youth Volunteers, the creation of a Road Traffic Offences Tribunal, expansion of operational bases and the refurbishment of the agency’s zonal headquarters in Oyo town.
He also listed the recruitment and training of 500 new officers, introduction of the QR Code Jacket policy for over 32,000 commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators, stronger collaboration with security and traffic agencies, and the creation of three additional directorates covering operations, rescue and incident management, and engineering and logistics.
The OYRTMA chairman urged the newly promoted officers to see their elevation as a call to greater responsibility and remain committed to ensuring free traffic flow, reducing crashes and promoting road safety. The ceremony was attended by government officials, security chiefs, former OYRTMA officials and other dignitaries.
