The 2026 edition of the Amala Festival is set to receive a major boost as the Oyo State Agency for Youth Development moves towards deeper collaboration with the organisers, with a proposed joint committee expected to strengthen planning, coordination and youth participation in the festival.

The development followed a visit by the Amala Festival team to the Chairman of the Oyo State Agency for Youth Development, Hon. Adebowale Adebayo Falana, as the organisers sought his continued support for this year’s edition. The organisers said Falana has supported the festival since its third edition by helping connect it with government resources and assets.

The proposed partnership is expected to give Amala Festival 5.0 – Roots, Royalty & Rhythm a broader community and youth-development dimension, while creating opportunities for young people, food entrepreneurs, vendors, cultural practitioners and businesses across Oyo State.

The collaboration is also expected to align with the mandate of the Oyo State Agency for Youth Development, which focuses on youth capacity building, coordination of youth organisations and programmes that promote the economic, social and cultural empowerment of young people.

Speaking on the proposed collaboration, Falana said the festival would provide an opportunity to showcase different expressions of Amala cuisine from across Oyo State. He said, “We are going to bring in the best brand of Amala dishes that each zone in Oyo State has to offer for the attendees this year.”

According to the organisers, visitors will experience distinctive Amala dishes associated with Oyo, Ibadan, Ibarapa and Ogbomoso, providing an opportunity to appreciate the different culinary identities and traditions across the state.

As part of the expanded programme, the organisers and the youth agency are proposing the Amala Festival Village Initiative, a community-focused sponsorship platform through which individuals, philanthropists, community leaders, organisations and corporate partners can directly contribute to feeding festival attendees.

Under the proposed initiative, each sponsored Amala Village will provide guests with Executive Amala Plates containing four wraps of Amala, Abula, Ogunfe, beef and table water. With four sponsored villages proposed, the initiative is expected to provide Executive Amala Plates for festival visitors while encouraging stronger community ownership of the celebration.

Amala Festival 5.0 – Roots, Royalty & Rhythm is scheduled to hold on December 4 and 5, 2026, in Ibadan, with the organisers projecting attendance of more than 10,000 people. The festival is expected to feature food, music, culture, fashion, entertainment, entrepreneurship and community participation.

The proposed partnership with the Oyo State Agency for Youth Development is expected to strengthen youth and grassroots participation while further promoting Oyo State’s culinary heritage. If implemented, the Amala Festival Village Initiative could become a major attraction of the 2026 edition, combining food, culture, generosity and community in a celebration of Oyo identity.
