The Executive Chairman of Ibadan South-West Local Government, Hon. Kehinde Akande, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to qualitative education with the distribution of educational materials to students across the council area ahead of the new academic session.
The distribution ceremony attracted students from public primary and secondary schools, alongside parents, teachers, education stakeholders and political functionaries. Hundreds of students benefited from the materials provided by the local government.

The items distributed included thousands of exercise books, recommended textbooks, branded school bags, mathematical sets, English dictionaries, pens, pencils and other essential writing materials aimed at supporting students in their academic activities.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Akande described education as the bedrock of development and a major priority of his administration. He said the initiative was designed to reduce the financial burden on parents, encourage school enrolment and retention, and motivate students to perform well academically.

Akande stressed that no child should be forced out of school because of a lack of learning materials, adding that the council would continue to invest in the future of its young people. He also disclosed that the administration had supported the education sector through school renovations, provision of furniture, teacher support and sponsorship of educational programmes.
The Inspector General for Education in Oyo State, Mr. Aderibigbe Oluwatosin, who witnessed the distribution, commended Akande for his sustained contribution to the academic development of students. He described the intervention as timely and impactful, noting that it supports the education agenda of the Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration.

Some beneficiary students expressed appreciation to the council chairman, saying the materials came at an appropriate time as they resumed the new academic session. Parents also commended the initiative, describing Akande as a grassroots-oriented leader who understands the educational needs of families.
The distribution forms part of several people-centred programmes of the Akande administration in Ibadan South-West Local Government. The chairman assured residents that more interventions in the education sector would be implemented before the end of his tenure.
