Oyo Appoints Substantive Principal Officers for Polytechnic Ibadan

The Oyo State Government has approved the appointment of substantive principal officers for The Polytechnic, Ibadan, with Dr. Lasisi Taiwo Abideen named as the institution’s new Rector.

 

Governor Seyi Makinde approved the appointments through an official letter, marking a significant milestone in the administration of the institution.

 

Also appointed are Dr. Olajide Taiwo Sherifat as Registrar, Mr. Adegbola Abiodun Kolawole as Bursar, and Mr. Osunrinade Olukunle Akinbola as Librarian.

 

The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Olusegun Olayiwola, announced the appointments on Tuesday after receiving the governor’s approval letter.

 

 

According to the commissioner, the appointment process followed due procedure, beginning with a public advertisement in national newspapers and culminating in interviews conducted by the institution’s Governing Council, chaired by Prof. Lanre Nassar.

 

 

Hon. Olayiwola noted that the transparent selection process was designed to ensure that only qualified candidates emerged as principal officers of the institution.

 

 

He also pointed out that the Polytechnic had operated with acting principal officers since 2005, making the appointments a significant step toward strengthening the institution’s leadership and administration.

 

The commissioner congratulated the newly appointed officers and disclosed that their appointments took effect from July 31, 2026, with each serving a single tenure of five years.

The appointments are expected to provide stable leadership and enhance academic and administrative excellence at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, in line with the Oyo State Government’s commitment to improving tertiary education.
