The NNPC Limited, through its Corporate Social Responsibility arm, the NNPC Foundation, has commissioned and handed over a fully installed 1.5 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) System to Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and improve access to advanced medical diagnostics in Nigeria.

 

The MRI facility, commissioned at the Igwe Orizu ICT Centre, NAUTH Permanent Site in Nnewi, is expected to improve diagnostic imaging services for millions of residents across the South-East states of Anambra, Enugu, Imo, Abia and Ebonyi, as well as neighbouring Delta State. The intervention is aimed at reducing the burden of long-distance travel and high diagnostic costs previously faced by patients seeking specialised medical imaging services.

 

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., Bashir Bayo Ojulari, represented by the Managing Director of NNPC Foundation Ltd./Gte, Emmanuella Arukwe, described the project as a strategic investment in healthcare access, diagnostic precision and improved patient outcomes. She noted that the intervention reflects the organisation’s commitment to building sustainable healthcare systems and impactful national institutions.

 

 

The project involved the delivery, installation, calibration, testing and commissioning of the state-of-the-art MRI machine alongside supporting infrastructure such as RF shielding systems, chillers, backup UPS systems, specialised imaging accessories, ventilation systems, CCTV, oxygen monitoring systems and intercom communication facilities. Dignitaries at the event, including government officials, traditional rulers and members of the hospital management, commended the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful for the region.

The event featured the official unveiling and tour of the MRI facility by dignitaries, including government officials, traditional rulers, and the hospital’s management, who commended NNPC Foundation for the intervention, describing it as timely, impactful, and capable of easing the burden of long-distance travel and high diagnostic costs previously faced by patients across the South-East region.
