The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has reiterated the commitment of his administration to the safety and security of lives and property across the state, declaring that while the government is prepared to engage and listen in order to secure the safe return of victims abducted in Oriire Local Government Area, it will never surrender the state to fear, intimidation, or terrorism.
Governor Makinde stated that security agencies have been fully mobilized and are currently working round the clock through intelligence gathering, coordinated operations, and strategic engagements to ensure that all those kidnapped regain their freedom safely.
According to the Governor, the unfortunate incident in Oriire has once again highlighted the need for stronger collaboration between communities, local vigilante groups, and security agencies in combating criminal activities across the state. He assured residents that the government remains proactive and determined to protect every part of Oyo State from criminal elements.
“We are ready to listen to the abductors if that will help in preserving innocent lives, but let it be made clear that Oyo State will never give in to terror. Criminals cannot be allowed to dictate the atmosphere of governance or create fear among our people,” the Governor said.
Governor Makinde further assured families of the victims that the government shares in their pain and anxiety, adding that every available resource is being deployed to secure the immediate rescue of those affected. He urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and continue supporting security operatives with timely and credible information.
The Governor also warned criminal elements operating within or around the state to desist immediately, stressing that Oyo State will continue to strengthen its security architecture and ensure that anyone found culpable faces the full weight of the law.
He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to sustaining peace, stability, and economic growth in the state, noting that no act of criminality would be allowed to undermine the progress Oyo has recorded in recent years.
