Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has fulfilled his promise to Mr. Babatunde Oluwadaisi Isiah Chesire, a person with disability, by handing over the key to a newly built house and a wheelchair in Moniya.
The symbolic presentation took place on Monday at the new residence behind King’s College, Moniya. The Director General of the Oyo State Agency for Persons with Disabilities (OYPWD), Barr. Ayodele Adekanmbi, presented the house key alongside the Governor’s Executive Assistant on Disability Matters, Hon. Olufemi Timothy, who signed as a witness.

Governor Makinde had made the promise in January during the “Oyo at 50” programme for persons with disabilities after Mr. Chesire appealed for assistance. The beneficiary, who has used a wheelchair for several years, had earlier disclosed that he, his wife, and children were evicted from their former residence in Moniya.

Speaking at the presentation, Barr. Adekanmbi described the gesture as the fulfillment of a promise and a demonstration of compassionate leadership that restores dignity and hope to vulnerable citizens. He noted that the governor’s action reflects his commitment to inclusive governance.

He urged Mr. Chesire to preserve the house as a lasting legacy and cautioned him against selling the property, assuring that the state government would continue supporting persons with disabilities through the agency.
Hon. Olufemi Timothy commended Governor Makinde for consistently empowering persons with disabilities through employment opportunities, land allocations, vehicles, and other empowerment initiatives, while appreciating his inclusive style of governance.
Overwhelmed with emotion, Mr. Chesire thanked Governor Makinde, saying he never imagined becoming a homeowner, let alone owning such a spacious house. He offered prayers for the governor in appreciation of the life-changing gesture.

The beneficiary also recounted his difficult childhood, saying he was abandoned by his parents in Ogbomoso and described Governor Makinde as the first Oyo governor to show genuine love and concern for persons with disabilities.
The presentation further highlights the Oyo State Government’s commitment to promoting inclusion, improving the welfare of persons with disabilities, and ensuring that no resident is left behind in its development agenda.
