Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, on Tuesday received a delegation from the European Union led by the EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Gautier Mignot, at his private residence in Ibadan.
According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser (Media) to the Governor, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between Oyo State and the European Union in the areas of agriculture, education and the fight against gender-based violence.
The delegation included Prof. Leila Ben-Amor Mathieu, Head of Section for Human Development at the European Union in Nigeria, while Oyo State officials at the meeting included the Executive Adviser on Agribusiness and International Cooperation, Dr. Debo Akande, and the Executive Assistant on Administration, Revd. Idowu Ogedengbe.
Speaking with journalists after the meeting, Ambassador Mignot said discussions centred on agricultural development and climate change, with both parties exploring ways to further position Oyo State as a major food-producing hub in Nigeria.
He added that education and the fight against gender-based violence also featured prominently in the discussions, noting that youths and women remain key priorities in the European Union’s development interventions.
The ambassador further revealed that the EU is focusing on the dairy value chain and is interested in supporting the cocoa sector, which he described as having enormous potential for economic growth and development in Oyo State.
