Seyi Makinde has called on residents of Oyo State and Nigerians at large to embrace unity, tolerance and political decorum as the country gradually moves into another political season ahead of future elections.

Governor Makinde made the call while speaking with journalists shortly after receiving an Eid-el-Kabir homage delegation led by the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Bayo Lawal, at his residence in Ibadan. The governor used the occasion to extend greetings to Muslim faithful on the celebration of the Eid-el-Adha festival, urging citizens to continue to promote peaceful coexistence and mutual respect irrespective of political, ethnic or religious differences.

The governor stressed that while political activities and alignments may intensify in the coming months, residents must understand that governments and political offices are temporary, but the unity and stability of the state and the country remain paramount. He maintained that Oyo State has continued to stand out as a peaceful state that cannot easily be divided along ethnic or religious lines, calling on political actors and citizens to avoid actions capable of creating tension or disunity.

Governor Makinde also addressed ongoing security concerns in the state, particularly the recent abduction of school children and teachers, assuring residents that government and relevant stakeholders are working tirelessly to ensure the safe return of the victims to their families. Special prayers were also offered during the visit for the peace, security and progress of Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole.
