The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening sustainable regulatory systems that will ensure Nigerians have access to safe, quality and efficacious medicines, as well as nutritious foods.
The Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, stated this while delivering a goodwill message at the Mid-Year Review of Nigeria’s Health Sector Reforms and Policy Dialogue.
Adeyeye noted that achieving Universal Health Coverage would remain difficult without reliable access to essential health commodities, stressing the need for strong regulatory systems to support sustainable health outcomes
She emphasised that effective quality management systems and a competent workforce are also critical to ensuring that health commodities available to Nigerians meet required standards of safety, quality and efficacy.
According to her, NAFDAC has made significant progress in strengthening its regulatory systems through the implementation of standard operating procedures and quality management systems.
She added that the Agency has also adopted the World Health Organisation’s Global Benchmarking Tool (GBT) as part of efforts to improve its regulatory processes and institutional capacity.
Adeyeye stressed that the progress recorded by NAFDAC reflects the Agency’s deliberate focus on building sustainable systems and strengthening institutional capacity within the regulatory environment.
She said the efforts would further strengthen Nigeria’s regulatory framework, protect public health and contribute to the delivery of better and more sustainable health outcomes for Nigerians.
