Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has signed Executive Order 002 of 2026 on the Regulation and Enforcement of Vehicle Registration and Traffic Management, restricting the operations of commercial motorcycle riders (Okada) between 10:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. daily across the state as part of efforts to strengthen security.
The governor said the order became necessary following the use of unregistered vehicles and motorcycles in criminal activities, including the recent abduction of teachers and pupils in Oriire Local Government Area. He noted that the measure is aimed at enhancing public safety and improving the state’s security architecture.
Makinde assured residents that efforts to secure the release of the abducted teachers and pupils remain ongoing, stressing that the victims have not been forgotten or abandoned. He urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through the state’s emergency number, 615, emphasizing that security is a collective responsibility.
Earlier, Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Abiodun Aikomo, explained that the executive order provides a legal framework for enforcing vehicle registration and traffic regulations. He added that designated authorities have been empowered to arrest offenders, prosecute defaulters and impound vehicles that violate the provisions of the order.
